How can performers inquire about playing a house concert?
We are not actively seeking artists to play at our house concerts at this time. We only host about ten of these shows a year, and we typically contact artists from a “wish list” we’ve been pursuing for some time.
“I know this band that would be great playing at your place; I’ll put them in touch with you…”
We don’t invite bands to play at your house- please don’t (however well-intentioned), invite them to play at ours. There are lots of talented artists out there; we only host 8 to 10 shows a year, so we are pretty overwhelmed with options for who might play here. We may or may not share your level of enthusiasm for the artist that you are pitching; everyone has very unique musical tastes. We have occasionally encountered awkward situations for all concerned.
Are these shows open to the public?
They are private, invitation-only events. To get an invitation, contact us using our mailing list/contact page. Assuming space is available, we’ll send you an invitation. Tickets are only in advance and of course the proceeds go to the band, we do not make any profit from the shows.
How are invitations sent out?
We send out an email invitation to our mailing list about a month in advance of event. If you’re on Facebook please join our group so you can get notifications be part of our music loving community.
How do I get there?
The house is in Bethesda MD. We’ll send an email to all the ticket holders, couple of days before the show with details. There's street parking.
Is this a venue?
No it’s a private home we are not a business. We are music lovers who provide a place where like-minded people can hear great music. A musicians life is tough, providing this performance space is our contribution to them for the joy they bring us.
How can I get tickets?
There are no actual tickets, just printout your PayPal receipt and bring that as the ticket. We will have a list of attendees.
Is there seating for all of the guests?
It depends on the kind of music being performed. Some people like to show up at 7PM to stake out a seat. We bring out a few folding chairs or people sit on cushions on the floor. Lots of people prefer to stand, especially when their favorite band is rocking out. Most people find themselves where they’re most comfortable.
What can I bring?
The shows are BYOB and we ask that you please make an appetizer or a side dish to share as I usually make food. We have a fridge downstairs for your drinks but we always have plenty of coolers and ice available also. You can also bring some cash to buy stuff from the bands; they usually do a meet and greet in-between two sets, they will sell (and sign) CDs, T-shirts, etc.
The name Camarillo Concerts is inspired by Charlie Parker's song "Relaxin' At Camarillo", Parker wrote it while playing in the Camarillo State Hospital jazz band. Want to know the back story? click here.
